Rwanda has won big at the annual World Travel Awards Africa Gala Ceremony 2017, which took place at Kigali Convention Centre on Tuesday night on the sidelines of the Africa Hotel Investment Forum.
Rwanda was recognised, for the first time, as the Africa’s Leading Destination 2017 at the glamorous event which attracted leading hospitality and aviation companies, experts from different countries.
In the hotel category, the host of this year’s awards ceremony, Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, scooped three awards; Africa’s Leading Conference Hotel, Africa’s Leading New Hotel and Rwanda’s Leading Conference Hotel for its spectacular Convention Centre which hosts up to 5,000 delegates.
World Travel Awards serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry.
Each year, World Travel Awards covers the globe with its grand tour, a series of regional gala ceremonies to recognise excellence in each continent, culminating in a Grand Final at the end of the year.
AHIF, which started Tuesday is a world-class event that serves to connect hospitality industry leaders, agenda-setters and members of the government and media, and to get up to speed with current thinking and developments within the flourishing African continent.
In other awards, Kigali Marriott Hotel was crowned Rwanda's Leading Business Hotel 2017 and Rwanda's Leading City Hotel 2017, while Kigali Serena Hotel’s scooped Rwanda's Leading Hotel 2017 award and its Presidential Suite was awarded as Rwanda's Leading Hotel Suite 2017.
On the other hand, Kigali Car Rentals received an award for Rwanda's Leading Car Rental Company 2017, Thousand Hills Africa got the award as Rwanda's Leading Destination Management Company 2017, and Nyungwe House was recognised as Rwanda's Leading Safari Lodge 2017.
Primate Safaris Rwanda was Rwanda's Leading Tour Operator 2017 and Satguru Travels Kigali became Rwanda's Leading Travel Agency 2017.
In the aviation sector, Kenya Airways was selected by voters as Africa’s Leading Airline and Africa’s Leading Airline - Business Class, while Cape Town International Airport walked away with the trophy for Africa’s Leading Airport.
Winners from the event will go forward to compete in the World Travel Awards Grand Final, this year taking place at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa in Vietnam on the evening of December 10th.
