DESPITE playing one-over par on day three of the lucrative MTN Mug of mugs, Rwanda’s top golfer Emmanuel Ruterana stayed ten strokes behind Kenya’s in-form Dismas Ndiza.
Ndiza, who set a new course record of eight under par-64 on day two, fired 70 on day three to seize a commanding seven-stroke lead as Uganda’s Deo Akope shot a woeful 77. Ahead of the final day (yesterday), Ruterana, three shots adrift was still hot on Akope’s heels.
"I have to stay focused because I know that I have a good chance of finishing second,” he said.
After day three, pre-tournament favourite Akope admitted he was virtually out of contention for top spot. He conceded that it was almost impossible to catch up with Ndiza with just one round left.
He also rued missing the greens so many times with his second shot. Shs 10m is up for grabs at the four day event.
