After losing 75-51 to defending champions KPA on Tuesday, APR Women’s basketball club will be seeking for a second win at the ongoing FIBA Africa Zone V Club Championships when they face Equity of Kenya on Wednesday evening at Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala, Uganda.

It was an unkind Tuesday for both Rwandan teams as Patriots also endured a narrow loss 73-77 at hands of Uganda’s four-time reigning champions City Oilers. Both teams advanced to the quarter-finals from Group A—Oilers as group leaders and Patriots as runners-up.

Oilers and Patriots was a tight game and well balanced from beginning to the end. Both sides tied 23-all at the end of the first quarter before the hosts, and title holders, City Oilers, took the second quarter 22-19 to go into half-time break with a 45-42 lead.

Patriots bounced back to win the third quarter 19-15 and to into the final quarter carrying a one-point lead, 61-60.

However, Mandy Lutwama Juruni’s Oilers had the last laugh with a full to maximum capacity Lugogo Indoor Arena cheering on them. The defending champions City Oilers claimed the fourth quarter; 17-12 to win the game 77-73.

City Oilers’ Pegues Adarlus and Robinson Opong scored a game high 19 points each, while Jordin D. Mayes added 16 points for the home side.

Olivier Shyaka led Patriots with 16 points, team captain Aristide Mugabe dropped 13 points while Kami Kabange and Steven Havugintwari contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Charles Mbazumutima’s APR, who have so far lost two and won one, face Kenya’s Equity in their fourth game today, starting at 6pm, looking to improve their win ratio to 2:2.  On Tuesday, the military side lost 75-51 to holders Kenya Ports Authority.

Today is a rest day for the men’s tournament. The competition will resume on Thursday with quarter-finals. Semi-finals will take place on Friday and the finals on Saturday.
