Why it matters how you dress to church

Editor,

RE: "The way we dress to church does not matter” (The New Times, October 2). It is true religion and spirituality is about your individual soul. It is also true that spirituality is not just about selfishly guarding your social and spiritual rights and righteousness. It is also about acting in love to respect and protect the feelings of others, individually or collectively.

That is the essence of fellowship and that is why we talk of going to church rather than worshiping God in the confines of our bedrooms.

Once we appreciate the importance of fellowship in corporate worship, we learn to respect the standards and feelings of society and fellow worshipers. What we do and say—right or wrong—does affect the faith of others. Otherwise, if one feels that others have no say on what they puts on, then they are better off worshiping whatever they deem fit in the privacy of their bedrooms.
