According to the FRVB Executive Secretary, Christian Hatumimana, the event will be used to scout for players that will represent Rwanda in future regional, continental and international competitions.
"This year we plan to put more focus on the Under-20 players, both boys and girls. But that doesn’t mean that we shall not have the usual categories, senior men and women as well as veterans,” Hatumimana said.
Registration fee is Rwf10,000 for each team (pair) intending to compete in the two-day event. So far, only the duo of Charlotte Nzayisenga and Denyse Mutatsimpundu has registered.
Nzayisenga and Mutatsimpundu are the defending champions of the senior women’s category, they defeated Belise Irakoze and Claudine Musanabageni 2-1 in last year’s final.
Men’s teams are expected to participate include; Flavien Ndamukunda and Patrick Kavalo as well as Christopher Mukunzi and Olivier Ntagengwa. Last year, Ntagengwa and Kavalo beat Uzziel Ndahimana and Olivier Rulinda 2-0 to claim the men’s title.
Julius Kansiime Kagarama and Pascal ‘Domingo’ Tuyishime took the veteran men’s title after beating former national team players; Alexi Nkuranga and Jean Pierre Ngirimana 2-0, while Scholastic Nidukuze and Gertrude Kubwimana won the veteran women’s category.
