RE: "Over 21,000 sit national TVET exams” (The New Times, September 21). First of all I wish the best of luck to these candidates. Secondly, I would like to applaud the Government for its commitment to TVET.

I know that most Rwandans look down on TVET courses in preference to the conventional type of education. That is why we are saddled with so many unemployable young men and women with various degrees. If we are to have real development, successful TVET graduates need to be empowered and given the best starter kits as they embark on the second part of their life’s journey.

For example, Government should start a loan facility from which starter kits in different fields can be acquired by the trainees. Get that right and we have a critical mass of highly skilled young people doing meaningful work in different areas, coupled with modern agriculture and Rwanda will truly be on the right path to prosperity.

Once again, I wish the TVET candidates success in the exams.
