RWANDA’s Valens Ndayisenga finished 52nd in the Elite Men’s Individual Time Trial (ITT) at the ongoing UCI Road World Championships, on Wednesday afternoon in Bergen, Norway.

Netherlands rider Tom Dumoulin won the 31-kilometer race against the clock after using 44 minutes and 41 seconds to win. The 2017 UCI Road World Championships started on September 17 and will run until 24.

Slovenian Primoz Roglic finished 57 seconds behind Dumoulin to take silver while the Tour de France reigning champion Chris Froome of Great Britain finished in the third place after using 46 minutes and 2 seconds.

The 23-year old Ndayisenga, competing at the annual championships for the second time following his debut in the United States, finished 6 minutes and 5 seconds behind Dumoulin. He was second among the three African riders in the Elite Men’s ITT race.

South Africa’s Willem Jakobus Smit (0:44:41) came in the 49th position while Eritrean Meron Teshome clocked 54 minutes and 30 seconds to cross the finish line in the 59th place out of 64 riders.

Guyana’s Jermaine Burrowes was the only rider, who failed to finish the race on the 65-man startlist.

At the 2015 edition in Richmond, Virginia, United States, Ndayisenga finished 48th in U23 Men’s ITT out of 52 entrants before finishing 125th in the U23 Men’s road race out of 170 starters.

Other Team Rwanda riders at the 2015 edition, Bonaventure Uwizeyimana finished 97th while Jean Bosco Nsengimana did not finish the 162km race.

In Norway, Rwanda is being represented by three riders, Ndayisenga in Elite Men’s competitions, and Joseph Areruya and Samuel Mugisha in the U23 category.

Ndayisenga returns to action on Sunday in the Elite Men's 267.5km Road Race, while Areruya and Mugisha compete on Friday in the U23 road race.
