Volleyball league debutants Gisagara VC upset Kirehe VC 3-1 in Game 2 of the league playoff finals played on Saturday at Nyakarambi grounds in Kirehe district to win title.

Gisagara, who played a game without their head coach Eric Gakwaya beat Fidele Nyirimana’s team 3-1 to win the title at the very first attempt. They had also won the first game last weekend.

Gisagara won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-20 in just 41 minutes to give themselves chances of winning the first title. Kirehe fight back to claim the third set 26-24 before Gisagara put in an excellent display to win fourth set 25-23. The game last one hour and 30 minutes.

In Eric Gakwaya’s absence, Gisagara hired former Rwanda international Ellie Mutabazi to take charge of the team for Game 2. Mutabazi plays for APR volleyball club that finished third in the league.

Kirehe, who are in their third season, but are yet to win the league title, lost the first game 3-1 (25-23 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20) played last Saturday at Gisagara gymnasium.

Kirehe reached the playoff finals after defeating IPRC-South 2-1 in the semi-finals. They lost the first game 3-2, but recovered to claim the second and third games; 3-2 and 3-0 respectively whereas Gisagara dominated former champions APR VC 2-0 in the other semi-final.

Both Gisagara and Rwanda Revenue Authority, who won the women’s league title, will be crowned titles on September 30. They will both represent Rwanda at next year’s CAVB Club Championships.
