For the first time ever, a Rwandan military officer was recently passed out at a Tanzanian military academy as part of the military bilateral cooperation among partner states of the East African Community (EAC).
Major John Bosco Kabera underwent the one year senior officers’ training course at the Command and Staff College (CSC) in Monduli, Tanzania. It attracted military officers from other countries of the EAC region and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
The course, which is the twenty third of its kind, trains selected military officers to assume high command activities in their respective countries.
Rwanda’s Defence Liaison Officer at the EAC secretariat, Brigadier General Dr Norbert Kalimba explained that the course is in the framework of bilateral cooperation among partner States of the EAC.
"This training follows a Memorandum of Understanding we signed with the East African Community, and we hope that the next intake will have two officers from Rwanda,” he said
Kalimba also added that the programme aims at bringing together military officers from partner States to interact and share experiences from their day-to-day activities.
The one year course also promotes military diplomacy, confidence building and ultimately laying a firm foundation for integration.
In 1972, the Tanzania Military Academy was an institution for party cadres established in Monduli district, 37 km west of Arusha town.
The institution which went by the name Party Cadres Military School (PCMS) was charged with the task of training middle and high ranking party and Government functionaries with the aim of improving and strengthening their leadership, command qualities and articulations.
