RE: "Rwanda welcomes US court decision to uphold conviction for genocidaire” (The New Times, September 5).
Beatrice Munyenyezi – a notorious genocidaire in Butare, like her husband Arsene Ntahobali and her mother-in-law Pauline Nyiramasuhuko – should instead be extradited to Rwanda. She lied to the US immigration office to acquire citizenship and residence. She did all these malpractices trying to conceal her role in the Genocide committed against the Tutsi of Rwanda. Such malpractices mean that she feels herself guilty; she feels that there are several victims whose death weighs on her.
Thus, it’s commendable that the US judiciary has denied her appeal bid against her 10 year-sentence for lying about her role in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. After serving this sentence, she should be extradited to Rwanda to account for her role in the Genocide.
Genocide suspects may hop from country to country to seek safe havens but, whatever time it may take, they will account for lives whose deaths weigh on them.
I believe that the US will extradite Munyenyezi as they have always cooperated fully in bringing suspects of the Genocide against the Tutsi to justice.
