The Rwandan community in Ethiopia at the weekend gathered at the embassy in Addis Ababa to celebrate the National Harvest Day, Umuganura.
Presiding over the event, Rwanda’s ambassador to Ethiopia, Hope Tumukunde Gasatura showed appreciation towards the community for their involvement in government programmes.
She reminded them that traditionally, Umuganura was a very important event around the country as it was a symbol of conviviality between Rwandans where they met to celebrate the harvest from the past agricultural year and collectively plan for the future.
The envoy thanked the community for their role in the preparation and participation in the August presidential polls.
"You showed the confidence you have in your leaders and what the country has achieved during the last 23 years of rebuilding Rwanda,” said Tumukunde.
Tumukunde, who is also Rwanda’s permanent representative to the African Union, further urged Rwandans in Ethiopia to keep the momentum of nation building.
She told the gathering that Rwandans are proud of the good governance that is not only observed by Rwandans themselves, but also commended by foreigners hence the nomination of the country to lead the AU Summit.
The 29th ordinary session of the Assembly of the African Union held in Addis Ababa in July, elected Rwanda to lead the Union for 2018.
The ceremony was also marked with feeding children with milk and sharing Rwandan delicacies and traditional dance.
