Raging Nigerian football fans have called for the disbandment of the country’s U-20 football team ahead of the African Youth championship due in Kigali, Rwanda.

This follows Nigeria’s elimination from the on going WAFU Under-20 Cup.

The fans believe the team that featured in the championship cannot go far in next month’s African Youth Championship (AYC).

After the team was beaten 4-3 on penalty by Senegal, most of the fans called for the disbandment of team while others called for the overhauling of the technical crew.

A fan, who gave his name as Goddy told The Guardian that he was disappointed that the Flying Eagles failed to impress.

"This is not a team that will play well in Rwanda. Tactically, they are deficient compared to other teams like Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Ghana”.

For Godspower Ovie, the technical crew led by Coach Ladan Bosso lacks the ability to give the team the needed guidance in Rwanda considering their display at the WAFU Cup.

"The coaches lack the technical ability. Looking at some of their changes compared to the ones made by the Senegalese, we need a better technical crew if we hope to do well in Rwanda,” Ovie said.

The final holds on Wednesday and will be attended by dignitaries across the continent including CAF president, Issa Hayatou.

The African Youth Championship is scheduled to take place from January, 18 to February, 1 2009.

According to the draw, Rwanda, Mali, Cameroon and Ghana were placed in Group A while Nigeria, Egypt South Africa and Ivory Coast will be squaring it out in Group B.
