Obradovic Tomislav will name his U-20 team for next year’s 16th African youth Championship next week. The Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday that the team selection had been delayed to enable the climax of the first round of the national league which winds up this weekend.

"The U-20 squad will be named next week after the climax of the national league first round. The youngsters will head to Tunisia for camping mid next week,” Kalisa said.

Besides the likes of Jean Mugiraneza, Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Claude Iranzi and Aimable Rucogoza (Rayon) who are assured of automatic slots in the team, Tomislav must identify new talent to blend with the quartet.

Rwanda, drawn in Group A alongside Mali, Cameroon and Ghana open their campaign on January 18 against Mali before further clashes with Ghana and Cameroon.

Group B is made up of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Egypt.

Rwanda needs only to reach the semi-finals of next year’s African Youth Championships to be assured of a place at the Fifa U-20 World Youth Championships finals to be hosted by Egypt. It will be the first time a tournament of such magnitude will be played in the Cecafa region.
