The Imam of Ruhengeri, Sheik Saleh Nshimiyimana, has urged Muslims in the country to always support the poor, and work towards creating a harmonious society. The remarks were contained in his Eid-Ul-Adha, message which was celebrated yesterday.
"We are reminded that in our daily activities, we have an obligation to lend a hand to the poor, be peace makers as this will be a source of harmony, which is the relevance of this day,’’ he said.
Hundreds of the Muslim faithful in Musanze, gathered in the open ground in town for prayers in the early morning hours to celebrate the day, dedicated to offering sacrifices and meant to help the poor.
According to the Muslim believers, Eid-Ul-Adha revolves on the doctrine of sacrifice and obedience which was passed down from Abraham when he showed obedience to God and accepted to offer his son Ishimail.
Sheik Nshimiyimana, called upon the Muslims to always seek righteous values before Allah if they are to get true recognition from fellow human beings.
Muslims, mark this day by offering animal sacrifices, with the meat being given to the poor and they also make other donations.
Meanwhile, in Gicumbi district, Muslim communities of Byumba, Rutare, Gatuna, Gaseke, Bwisige and Yaramba Mosques gathered at the Byumba Mosque for the celebrations.
The Imam, Sheikh Abdul Karim Mugarura, echoed a similar message, saying the day was meant to make thanks giving to Allah for protecting mankind throughout this year and years ahead.
"This is a very important period which will last for three more days, to give thanks giving to Allah through assisting the poor regardless of their religious beliefs,” said Mugarura.
Children from the Muslim and surrounding non Muslim communities in all Mosques of Gicumbi district were treated to food and other goodies.
