RE: "When Rwandans rebuked detractors” (The New Times, August 8).
I liked the most the "we are disturbed” part! It is indeed disturbing that this country that’s geographically located in the heart of a "dark continent” could run a peaceful campaign and election.
It is ‘disturbing’ that the citizens of this country could stand firm, against all odds, to shape their future and leadership that befits continuity and stability of national unity, democracy and development.
It is ‘disturbing’ that the opposition political parties would choose to advance national interests over individual/group interests.
It is ‘disturbing’ that an entire population could get organised behind their leader. The people of Rwanda owe a great deal of gratitude to President Kagame all the sacrifices he has made over the years, to ensure national unity and reconciliation, peace and security, socio-economic development and to restore the country’s dignity.
It is ‘disturbing’ that during the campaign period and subsequent election, and after announcement of the results, the country would still maintain maximum peace, with life going on normally, something that contradicts the narrative peddled by so-called experts ahead of the vote.
Well, what was not said is, proving the narrative wrong is what disturbs many out there.
