Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday sent a congratulatory message to his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame on his reelection as the head of state.
"I attach great importance to China-Rwanda relations, and am willing to make efforts with you to promote China-Rwanda friendly cooperation toward achievement of more successes in the interest of the two countries and two peoples, and to keep elevating the level of China-Rwanda relations,” Xi said in a message.
Kagame, who ran on the ticket of RPF-Inkotanyi, was reelected overwhelmingly in the polls that pitted him against Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, and Philippe Mpayimana, an independent.
Kagame, who was also backed by eight other political organisations operating in the country, polled over 98 per cent of the votes cast in the Friday poll.
