Andre Casa Mbungo has returned to SC Kiyovu as head coach for a second spell and says he wants to use his understanding of Rwandan football to bring back the side’s lost glory. Kiyovu were relegated to the second tier last season.

Mbungo, who coached the ‘Green Badges’ in 2005, signed a two-year contract this week that will keep him at the Mumena-based club until the end of 2019.

SC Kiyovu were relegated from the topflight division for their first time in their 53-year history after finishing second from bottom in the 16-team league table.

Mbungo promised to "do everything in my ability’ to bring back glory to the club that returned to the first division even without kicking a ball in the second tier league after newly promoted Isonga FC withdrew from competing in the Azam Rwanda Premier League.

The former Sec Academy, AS Kigali and Police FC coach, who began work on Tuesday, said that, "We are going to work hard in training as we prepare for the upcoming season. We already have a good base of players but that does not mean that we will not strengthen the team.”

"I’m excited about the challenge ahead and it’s my responsibility to prepare the team well so that can do better next season. Discipline will be very important and I know that if we work together, we shall bring back glory to Kiyovu,” Mbungo stated.

Mbungo guided AS Kigali and Police to the Peace Cup titles of 2013 and 2015 respectively and is keen to use his experience to stabilize Kiyovu and make them a formidable side once again.
