Azam Rwanda Premier League side Sunrise FC has tasked new head coach Alphonse Gatera to lead the Nyagatare-based club to a top four-finish next season.

The former Rwanda international, who is coming from second division side Rwamagana City FC, has been offered a one-year contract until 2018, subject to extension.

Gatera takes over the club from former AS Kigali and Police FC head coach Andre Casa Mbungo, whose six-month contract was not extended after leading them to 9th place last season despite numerous challenges that include non-payment of salaries for players and coaches for months.

According to the club vice president Longin Habineza, the new coach has been tasked to push for a better position, preferably in the top four—Sunrise FC made their league debut in 2014 and went on to finish fourth.

"We appointed Gatera based on his knowledge and vast experience in local football. The first priority is to lead the club to better position next season. We will give him all the support he needs and in return, we expect results,” Habineza told Saturday Sport on Friday.

In a separate interview, Gatera said he is excited for his new job and is ready to contribute to the club’s success. "I’m happy for the new job and trust from the club and am ready to give it my all in getting good results,” he said.
