Today

Rayon Sports  v   Atraco

Yesterday’s results

Kiyovu       1-3   APR
Mukura      0-0   Jeunesse
Electrogaz 2-0   Marines
Kibuye       2-3   Police
Amagaju    2-0   AS Kigali

APR beat Kiyovu 3-1 yesterday at Mironko grounds to move two points clear at the top of the league table but they can drop to second if Atraco wins today’s battle against fellow title contenders Rayon Sports at Amahoro stadium.

Congolese striker Ndjoli Bokungu netted a brace and Masudi Kaka scored the other as the former champions inflicted further misery on struggling Kiyovu, who dropped rock bottom after the defeat which was coupled with La Jeunesse picking a vital point against Mukura.

Today’s meeting between Rayon and Atraco is just one of the grand designs to establish the more superior club among the two. It will be a tough game, and indeed close one to call but there is no love lost whenever the two clubs meet.

The champions go into the match as the team under more pressure than their opponents, who are the only unbeaten side in the league despite their standing and points.

Sam Timbe’s team has already lost to one of their fellow contenders and will be hoping to avoid a third defeat in nine matches. They’ve also lost to Kibuye.

League top scorer with nine goals, Jean Lomami faces his former club for the first time as he leads Atraco striking line, and he comes against his young brother Marcel Lomami, who crossed from Kiyovu this season.

Both side have some familiar faces on the opposing end, among them are Kalisa Kase Theoneste Muhayimana who crossed to Atraco from Rayon while Kiyovu have ex-Atraco defender Bonaventure Hategekimana in their ranks.

Timbe has no injury worries but he plans to make some changes in the defensive line which was torn apart against APR a fortnight ago at the same venue.

"The team is ready, no injuries and we are hoping for good results,” said Atraco’s Ugandan-born tactician. His counterpart, Raoul Shungu will miss new signing Yusuf Ndayishimiye who is has dead leg.

"Apart from Ndayishimiye, the rest of the squad is good shape for the battle tomorrow (today),”Shungu said, adding that any result short of a win will jeopardize his team’s chances of winning the league, the first in four years.
