Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has made some changes to this year’s ongoing Rwanda Cycling Cup in a bid to allow the smooth running of the ongoing presidential campaigns around the country.

The changes have affected two races namely; Race for Culture that will start from Nyamagabe district in the southern province heading to Nyanza district also in southern province plus Circuit and the Central Race that will start from Nyamata town in Bugesera district heading to Muhanga town in the southern province.

The race for culture was scheduled for this Saturday (July 22) and has now been pushed to August 12 while the central race which was earlier scheduled for August 19 has been scheduled for September 9. Schedules for the remaining four races remained unchanged.

The development was confirmed by FERWACY permanent secretary Emmanuel Murenzi who disclosed that;

"The changes have been done due to the ongoing presidential campaigns mainly because most of our partners like the National Police, Red Cross, and some federation officials are currently involved in these campaigns. It was difficult to stage a race this time yet our ambition of having good publicity would not be possible because many people are in campaigns.”

The 2017 edition of Rwanda Cycling Cup which has a total of eleven races started on April 1 with the Memorial Lambert Byemayire (Kigali-Huye) which was won by Club Benediction’s Jean Bosco Nsengimana and the second race dubbed Famers’ Circuit (Kigali-Nyagatare) held on May 6 was claimed by Les Amis Sportifs’ Jean Claude Uwizeye.

The third race was Race to Remember (Ruhango-Karongi+Circuit) that was held on May 20 and won by Benediction’s Bonaventure Uwizeyimana while the previous race was the national championship that was held on June 24 and 25.

Adrien Niyonshuti won the Individual Time Trial (ITT) while Gasore Hategeka claimed the road race (Ngoma-Kigali+circuit).
