SOUTHERN PROVINCE

MUHANGA — Pothin Muvara, the Deputy Land Registrar, has asked land officers in the Southern Province to begin the land registration process in order to facilitate issuing of title deeds in the area.

He was addressing district land officials in the province who had turned up for training on the newly introduced land registration in the country.

The training, conducted by experts from the Netherlands Kadaster Land Agency, took place on Thursday in Muhanga district- aimed at creating awareness on the new land laws.

Rob Uvenhoven, the author of the ‘Title Systems in Rwanda’ under the Land Registration Reform Project, urged participants to collect accurate information about people’s land before issuing title deeds in order to reduce land conflicts.

The training dwelt on the importance of ownership rights, title deeds, and a good land administration system. The participants cited information management systems, lack of proper land demarcations and mapping as the challenges facing the land registration process.
