Nzamwita and Mwanafunzi submit bids for FA presidency

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) incumbent president Vincent Nzamwita and Albert Mwanafunzi, a FERWAFA Executive Committee member have submitted their bids to run for the federation top job. The elections are scheduled for September 10.

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) incumbent president Vincent Nzamwita and Albert Mwanafunzi, a FERWAFA Executive Committee member have submitted their bids to run for the federation top job. The elections are scheduled for September 10.

Nzamwita, who is seeking a second term, submitted his papers before the FERWAFA Electoral Commission, at the federation’s headquarters in Remera, on Friday afternoon.

Mwanafunzi, represented by Raoul Gisanura, presented his candidature on Saturday morning, beating the deadline by just hours.

After submitting his nominations forms, Nzamwita said, "I have submitted my nomination forms to the FERWAFA Electoral Committee as required by the Electoral guidelines.”

Nzamwita has been president of Rwandan football governing body since January 2014 and widely expected to win a second term.

Meanwhile, his rival, Mwanafunzi said that: "We have submitted our bid for the position of FERWAFA president on behalf of Rwanda Football Coalition for Change.”

In the nomination forms submitted, Mwanafunzi also presented names of the team he will work with in case he wins the presidency.

The names include; John Uwintwari as vice president, Marie Rose Ndejeje Uwineza, Maurice Munyandamutsa (Finance Commission), Liliane Kayiranga (Marketing Commission), Fidele Kanamugire (Youth Development Commission), Calixte Rachid Muteyinkingi (Technical Commission), Sandra Muhimpundu (Legal Commission), Marie Grace Nyinawumuntu (Women Football Commission), Augustin Neto Nzabahimana (Refereeing Commission), Gerard Habimana (Medical Commission) and Mukiga Rutagengwa (Security Commission).

FERWAFA Electoral Commission will between July 17 and 22, review the candidates’ documents before approving them on August 8.

Campaigns for the qualified candidates will officially begin on August 14 and end on September 9, a day before the elections.

Mwanafunzi, one of the founder members of Azam Rwanda Premier League side, AS Kigali in 2000, has been the head FERWAFA’s Commission of Competition for the last four years—he was AS Kigali president from 2008 to 2010.
