The National Electoral Commission (NEC) is calling upon all eligible voters to check and quickly confirm their personal details on the national voters’ registry not later than Monday, July 17, to avoid any last minute hiccups.
The NEC Executive Secretary Charles Munyaneza on Saturday said they plan to publish the final list on July 19.
By that time all voters are expected to have double checked and validated their personal details.
"Staffers at our headquarters are very busy over this weekend taking calls and assisting people in this exercise and many people are calling. The voters register now has close to 6.8 million people registered and we want all their information validated as soon as possible,” Munyaneza said.
"The number of registered voters is now 6,888,592. We expect this number of registered voters to slightly increase.”
The NEC official is particularly happy that day one of the presidential campaigns went without incident.
Munyaneza said: "So far, there has been no incident either on the part of the electorate or the candidates and we continue to call upon Rwandans in general to maintain the good spirit.”
On day one, President Paul Kagame, the flag bearer for the ruling RPF-Inkotanyi in presidential polls set for August 4 kicked off his campaign in Ruhango and Nyanza districts in Southern Province.
While independent presidential candidate Philippe Mpayimana took his first rally to Nyamata sector, in Bugesera District, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR), was in Rusizi District.
