Azam Rwanda Premier League champions Rayon Sports have confirmed that they will announce the replacement for Djuma Masudi as head coach before the end of the month, according to the club secretary general and spokesperson, Olivier Gakwaya.
Speaking to Times Sport on Tuesday evening, in an exclusive interview, Gakwaya confirmed that the new head coach will be appointed before the club starts pre-season training in early August.
"At the moment, we haven’t started the search for a new coach because the process requires time. Right now we are focusing on strengthening the squad, and negotiating contract extension for some of the existing players,” said Gakwaya.
He further added; "But, one thing for sure is that, we shall have a new head coach before the end of this month because he has to be with the team for the start of pre-season.”
Masudi,39, shockingly ended his one and half year spell with Rayon Sports after leading the club to the 2016/17 league title, citing personal reasons—the former Burundi international still had two-years remaining on his contract.
His resignation came three months after the club suspended him for two weeks over what the club described as ‘inappropriate conduct.’
"He only told us that he was resigning due to personal reasons and it is his right, we accepted his wish,” added Gakwaya
Meanwhile, the eight-time league champions have been linked to former AS Kigali and Police FC coach Andre Casa Mbungo following the expiry of his six-month contract with Sunrise FC.
