Banks are one of the most respected institutions and it doesn’t even matter where you come from or what job you hold. Students, farmers, businessmen and people from all walks of life still make an effort to look presentable when going to the bank and many times, everyone’s on their best behaviour because it’s the bank.

That said, banks aren’t immune to the craziness that goes on elsewhere. There are many inappropriate things people do in such a no-nonsense environment that often leave me shaking my head in disbelief. Like the couple who seemed oblivious to the rest of us waiting in line one time.
Even more surprising was the fact that it was the lady packing on the PDA. At one point, she stretched her arm over the back of his seat and started stroking his head. I was sitting right next to them and honestly, I was stunned.
There were several other girls in the bank but none of them had done or said anything that would have threatened the lady in question or given her reason to mark her territory, which is was I thought she was trying to do. I thought that maybe she was tipsy but it was too early.
I gave up when she started whispering in his ear and not long after that, they were taking Selfies! Honestly, I felt uncomfortable and was also irritated by the continuous clicks and flashing from their phones.
The only reason I didn’t get up and give the love-dovey couple more space is because I was tired and couldn’t bear the thought of standing for even 10 more minutes. You know how most banks don’t have enough room for waiting customers so I had to sit through it all. Which brings me to my next peeve.
Why do some people take their entire families along to the bank when just one of them holds an account? And then they want to sit together, taking up three or more seats and forcing the rest of us to queue for extended periods?
Unless you hold Joint Accounts, please leave your family and friends at home. You can always call or meet them after you pick the money. One other thing that irritates me is people with large sums of money who have every right to be at the bank but the problem is they take too long.
There’s nothing as annoying as waiting behind a guy depositing piles upon piles of cash when all you need is a few notes. It’s the same feeling you get when you park your modest second-hand Corolla next to a Mercedes.
I always feel like such people are scoffing at the rest of us shifting impatiently behind them and probably secretly musing that what the rest of us are getting from the bank is just pocket change for them.
But like a friend of mine likes to joke, who knows if such people aren’t working for someone else and are in fact only banking their boss’ money?
