As Rwanda marked its 23rd Liberation Day yesterday, messages of solidarity were all over the web to wish Rwandans prosperity and to congratulate the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) for having stopped the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

First Lady Jeannette Kagame joined many on the web to show their gratitude to the liberators.

"You were young and bold, and sacrificed more than we’ll ever be able to repay, to give us all a place to call home. Happy Liberation Day,” First Lady said on her Twitter account.

During yesterday’s 23rd liberation anniversary, President Paul Kagame and First Lady visited the newly built Shyira IDP Model Village and the new Shyira Hospital, delivering more impactful services to residents in Nyabihu District of the Western Province.

Envoys express solidarity

Through foreign diplomatic missions in Rwanda, different envoys expressed solidarity with the people of Rwanda wishing them a happy National Liberation Day.

The US Ambassador to Rwanda, Erica Barks-Ruggles, said she was overwhelmed by the fact that Rwanda and the US share holidays as Americans celebrate their Independence Day on July 4.

"Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans, and Happy Liberation Day to all Rwandans! Love that we share our holidays!” Barks-Ruggles said.

"Happy Liberation Day Rwandan friends! May you never again experience genocide, war and betrayal. Your strength to rise and rebuild is inspiring,” said the Swedish Ambassador to Rwanda, Jenny Ohlsson.

The UK Deputy High Commissioner to Rwanda, Jenny Wilcox, said she is inspired by Rwandans.

"Happy Liberation Day to all the Rwandan friends, colleagues, and citizens who inspire me so much,” she wrote on Twitter.

"From the Canadian High Commission, we wish Rwandans a Happy Liberation Day!” said Canada’s High Commissioner to Rwanda, Sara Hradecky.
