KICUKIRO - Jamaican born music star, Sean Paul and Congolese musician Koffi Olomide arrived yesterday at Kigali International Airport for the launch of Rwandatel’s GSM network that is due to take place today at Amahoro National Stadium.

On arrival, the two globally recognized icons were met by hundreds of Rwandan fans who had been waiting impatiently for over three hours just to see their favourite artistes face-to-face.

Asked on his arrival of his  first impression of Rwanda, Sean Paul said that he was attracted to the country’s green beauty and was interested to know what else happens in country.

"I promise my fans a first class performance,” he said. About the history of Rwanda he said the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis was very emotional but added that he was glad to see that people have moved on so fast.

"I heard about the events of 1994 and it was a very emotional experience. I know how hard it must have been since many people kill each other where I come from, however, we are here to spread the message of peace through music and I am glad that music brings people together,” he added.

Sean Paul came with a band of seven other Jamaicans while his queen dancers will be arriving today.

Koffi Olomide who was last in Rwanda 17 years ago also promised to perform to the best of his ability.

"We decided to bring these two artistes to be part of our GSM launch because we know that they have so many fans in Rwanda,” Cleophas Kabasiita, Rwandatel’s Public Relations and Marketing Officer said.

No fee is expected to be charged for the big show, however, the prerequisite for entry will be a Rwandatel simcard which costs Rfw1000 or a Rwandatel phone.

The Amahoro stadium which has capacity to accommodate at least 25,000 revealers is expected to be packed to the brim during the 6-hour music extravaganza that has been dubbed the ‘Rwandatel RevivalFest’.

As one of the most loved artistes around the world, Sean Paul has so far toured at least seven African countries including Uganda, Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon and Tanzania. The music guru has so far released four albums.  

As Rwandatel launches the GSM package, Kabasiita pledges that the public should expect a top quality network with very clear signals and at very low prices than any other network in the region.

GSM is a global system for mobile telecommunication that allows users to share voice, data and video information.
