On June 10, 2015, the third COMESA-EAC-SADC Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt raised hopes within the 26-member bloc of more than 620 million people when leaders signed a ‘historic’ trade deal designed to a common market among the blocs, which cover about half of the African continent. However, two years later, there is little progress in this effort as only Egypt has ratified the agreement to date.
