We would like to clarify that Kayonza-Rusumo road is sub-section of the multinational Busega-Mpigi and Kagitumba-Kayonza-Rusumo roads project divided into three (3) lots, namely: Lot 1 - Kagitumba-Gabiro, Lot 2 – Gabiro-Kayonza and Lot 3 – Kayonza-Rusumo.
The multinational project is co-financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), European Union (EU) and Government of Rwanda (GoR) at a total amount of US$91,255,091, US$54,840,800, US$21,812,928 and US$11,845,612 respectively.
Specifically, rehabilitation works of Kayonza-Rusumo road section are funded by the Government of Japan through JICA at an amount of US$37,133,844.54, AfDB at US$15,024,405.74 and GoR at US$2,258,286.27. The project will complete in December 2019.
The official launch of the entire Kagitumba-Kayonza-Rusumo road rehabilitation works will take place, in near future, in the presence of all project stakeholders especially the project financiers. Due arrangements and preparations will be communicated to the media house for the coverage of the event.
