The 2017 handball league title comes to an end today with a thrilling fixture between title hopefuls and traditional archrivals Police and APR in what will be the title decider.
The highly anticipated game will take place at Kimisagara ground at 3pm.
Reigning champions Police come into this game bidding for their fourth title in a row while the reigning Heroes Day champions are seeking for the second league title since 2009.
Antoine Ntabanganyimana’s Police are the only unbeaten team in the league so far and are leading the league table with 51 points in 17 games while Anaclet Bagirishya’s APR are second with 49 points having lost only one which came against Police in the first round.
In the first round Police had defeated APR 40-38 and if they win today’s game, they will definitely be crowned champions for the fourth time.
However, if APR wins, the two teams will tie on 52 points and for APR to win the title they have to defeat their opponents with a difference of more than two goals since the head to head rule is considered when they finish tied on the same tally of points.
"This is a very crucial game to us not only because we need the title, but because this year we are celebtarting 10 years since the club was established and to make this milestone jubilant, we have to win this title. We have prepared rigorously and we are ready to battle,” said APR coach Bagirishya
On other hand, his rival Ntabanganyimana is also gunning to claim his fourth title and he revealed that; "This is a big final, we know how APR really needs the title but we will not throw the towel, we want to be the champions league next year so we have to win the league.”
