Kigali Veterans Co-operation Society [KVCS] yesterday staged demonstrations against the arrest of the Director of State Protocol Rose Kabuye terming it a hindrance to the country’s development.

During the demonstration, which like others that have been taking it place since Kabuye’s arrest, took place before the German embassy in Kigali. The former servicemen and women emphasized that her release on bail is not enough.

"Our county is missing her contribution towards its development,” said Peninah Mukasahaha, a demobilized soldier who added that Kabuye is also a wife with children to look after.

The demonstration urged all Rwandans to stand firm in the fight against the injustice by the French and Germans "whose aim is taking our country back from where it was a few years ago.”

"Rose brought gender equality, justice and unity by stopping the Genocide, we fought along with her so we can’t stand seeing her being accused,” said James Nsengimana another veteran who like Kabuye, participated in the 1990-94 liberation struggle that stopped the Genocide.

He said that Germany’s decision to release Genocide perpetrators and arrest people who stopped the Genocide should be a challenge to all Rwandans to seek justice.

"All this is the guilt for the hand France had in the Genocide, they are targeting the innocent to cover up their acts,” said Faustin Kalisa an officer at KVCS. He pointed out that with the unity Rwanda has shown, it was just a matter of time before they won the battle. 

"Take an example of the women who have been sleeping outside this embassy since Rose was arrested. With all these positive acts, both France and Germany will realize that we are together and nothing can tear us apart,” said Kalisa.

Women grouped under Ndabaga, the women veterans’ association have been camped in front of the German embassy calling for Kabuye’s unconditional release and have vowed to stay there until their demands are met.
