RE: "Rwigara presents nomination papers" (The New Times, June 21)

I was trying to listen to this young lady’s message to Rwandans via Voice of America. I think she is contesting to lead Rwandans out of personal grievances. She doesn’t contest with the ambitious to take Rwandans somewhere.

She wants the world to believe her followers/supporters are harassed and are dwelling into the forest for the sake of their security but then she doesn’t tell us why only her followers and not Frank Habineza’s followers are persecuted.

She wants us to believe her late father’s death is linked to national security agencies without any good reasons to justify these claims.

All she wants the world to believe is in the same cycle of democracy values that Rwandans have no freedom of speech, Rwanda is a place of injustices, oppression etc.

That no freedom of speech and yet she has a platform in the same country to tell lies to the world. Oppression and instead she cannot prove any against herself. Police should have done more to put such sentiments on record so that she can prove all these outrageous accusations.

My call to the National Electoral Commission is to always be on the lookout so that at any time any candidate tells lies to the public, they are brought to account and where necessary, make them grounds for which a candidate’s eligibility to proceed with campaign can be revoked.

In the same vein, police should always take statements where a lie has been communicated to the public by any politician.

Rwandans need to hear promises that will solve their daily challenges water, electricity, better education, better living not promises emanating from personal grievances or personal instinct that has nothing to do with all Rwandans at large. Yulian
