Kakooza Nkuriza Charles a.k.a KNC has been elected the new president of the Local Artist’s Association. 

KNC is famous for the well known slow jam, ‘African Queen’, KNC, apart from being a singer is also a writer, actor and radio presenter at City Radio, a local radio station.

The elections, which were held on the evening of the 28th November, at St. Paul attracted big name artistes like the renowned Masamba, Sergeant Robert, KGB, The Brothers and several others.

Upon being declared the winner, KNC said that he wouldn’t wait long to put his plans into action. 

"I have now got a chance to contribute to the development of Rwandan music,” he declared. He promised to work hard and improve the level of Rwandan music to international standard, thereby increasing musician’s financial capacity to meet their needs.

"This will increase the credibility of Rwandan artistes as well as earning to the country,” KNC told The New Times. He vowed to help the government implement the copyright law that would protect the artistes from piracy.

Chrispin, the voice behind the famous song ‘Te Souviens-Tu, is the newly elected Vice-President in charge of Finance while Victor Fidel of the Brothers group, is the Vice President in charge of Technique.

Victor Fidel said Rwandan music has gained momentum and was optimistic that it was bound to rise to international level.

"The artistes have grown stronger by the day and this is important if our entertainment field is to develop,” he continued.

Safari Kim Kizito of Radio Ten was elected as the Secretary General of the Association, Jean Marie Vianne Ngabo is the new Technical Director while DJ Adams of City Radio could barely hide his enthusiasm upon being elected as Assistant Technical Director.

The association brings together local Rwandan musicians.
