Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the chairperson of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers, Monique Mukaruliza, for pointing out the urgent need of harmonising East African university fees.

With the integration at hand, we really cannot let our brothers and sisters in the sister countries pay fees similar to those of international students.

East African countries have excellent varsities and if the fees are lowered, citizens will comfortably acquire education in any university of their choice.

Many students would rather acquire particular qualification from either, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda or Burundi but have failed due to the high fees that international students pay.

Such access will increase the number of qualified people in the region, hence contributing highly to EAC economic growth.
