NORTHERN PROVINCE

BURERA — At least 45 residents of the Cyanika Sector in Burera district on Tuesday received exotic heifers through the poverty eradication project of One-Cow per Family programme.
Under the programme, residents receive cows and then pass on the calves to other residents in a rotating chain.

Speaking during the function, attended by cell, sector and district authorities the district Mayor Aimé Bosenibamwe called on the area residents to speed up their set goals in order to rise from the current poverty.

"It is a time to make poverty history by engaging in all possible development activities especially the transformation of agriculture and animal husbandry,” the Mayor said, calling on grassroot leaders to begin evaluating the family performance contracts for all residents.

Cyanika became the third Sector to witness the transfer of the cows to be donated through the One-Cow per Family programme. Initially the Heifer Project International-HPI donated 300 heifers in whole district.

George Kagarama of HPI, asked the beneficiaries to utilise the donated cows for milk and fertilisers, to support their health and promote agriculture.
