Three Rwandan players, including Jean Claude Iranzi, Fitina Ombalenga and Rashid Kalisa, have been released by Slovakian third division side MFK Topvar Topoľčan with immediate effect.

Midfielder Iranzi, 26, midfielder Kalisa, 20 and right-back Ombalenga, 22, had signed an initial 18-month contract with MFK Topvar Topoľčany but the team has no interest to retain them. Ombalenga joined the Slovakian side from SC Kiyovu while Kalisa and Iranzi were from Police FC and APR FC, respectively.

Iranzi began his career with Esperance youth team in 2000 before joining SC Kiyovu in 2004. Four years later, he was sold to APR in a big-money move. Kalisa started with Isonga FC before joining Police while Ombalenga rose through SC Kiyovu ranks and was a key player for them for three years before leaving.

The trio had returned to Rwanda for international duty with Amavubi as it prepared for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic last weekend, which Antoine Hey’s team lost 2-1. News of their release coincided with their time back home.
