Rwanda National Police on Friday commissioned 364 officer-cadets, who all graduated with the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police. The cadets’ pass-out coincided with celebrations for the 17th anniversary of Rwanda National Police, an event that was presided over by President Paul Kagame. The celebrations were held at Kigali Stadium in Nyamirambo. The cadets’ graduation follows about ten months of training, having started their course in August last year. Over that period, the officers underwent special drills as well as practical and theoretical lectures to shape them into officers with skills that are relevant to the force’s ambitions. The celebrations were a chance for the police force to reflect on its milestones, achievements and strategies such as cooperation with the general public. The celebrations also marked the end of Police Week, a month-long exercise of community outreach activities that is held every year. This year’s exercise focused on connecting solar energy to thousands of households and providing clean water to different communities in the country, among others. Speaking at the event, President Kagame hailed the officers for their continued cooperation and partnership with the general public noting that the police cannot achieve its mission on its own but require collaboration with citizens.
