RE: "University of Rwanda in fresh round of restructuring” (The New Times, June 14).

How can you send students where they will not get accommodation? Why throw students into trouble? No offices, no accommodation – why this abrupt decision?

I am of the view that Mr Ryumugabe does not have accurate information about the University of Rwanda-Rukara Campus. Who told him that Rukara is like a jungle where people are thrown to die?

There are hospitable people and facilities there that you are unlikely to find in other campuses of the University.

It is true that for the moment there is need to attract investors, most especially in sector of accommodation, but still students can be moved. This is a double-edged move (political and economic) with no compromise to the quality of education.

We need to look years ahead to build up cities that can support Kigali and distribute the national wealth equally which will also curtail rural-urban migration.

I remember when I first reached Gahini (in Kayonza Sector) back in 2009, the place was like a lost cell, but today, things are quite different and very promising.

Take a tour to see what is in Rukara before making any assumptions. We have come from far and we need to stand together so that we can keep going forward. Offices are there and can be created because there is land, and this is the right time for the private sector to come in and build accommodation facilities.

We need to be optimistic and work hard because the world we call developed went through the same paths.
