RE: "Embrace equality and actively challenge genocide ideology, public servants told” (The New Times, June 10)

Spot on! Public servants should be at the forefront in the fight against genocide ideology since they often times are regarded as opinion leaders in their respective communities. They are the elite.

Secondly, we know that the masterminds of the Genocide against the Tutsi were also public servants, using state infrastructure.

They are the very people who played a role in spreading the genocide ideology, years before the Genocide in 1994 and testimonies abound.

Those that played a role ranged from senior politicians and military officers to junior professionals who were involved in the planning, campaigning for and execution of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

Thus, present-day public servant should be at the forefront to fighting the genocide ideology that was planted by their predecessors from past regimes and it is a noble cause to do this.

However, the fight against genocide ideology needs inclusive efforts to be successful.

Let us all collectively, young and old, embrace the fight against genocide ideology to ensure future generations enjoy a country void of any sort of conflict, much less the heinous crimes committed on our land 23 years ago.
