President Paul Kagame, who was the guest of honour, used the occasion to invite Rwandans and other Africans in the Diaspora to Rwanda to partake in the country’s development process and in the transformation of the African continent in general.
A member of the Rwandan Diaspora in Belgium, who had earlier publicly requested Kagame for an opportunity to have a handshake with him, takes a selfie featuring the President as the event came to an end.
Rwandan singer King James is one of the artistes that performed at the colourful event.
The Rwanda Day event in Ghent attracted thousands of Rwandans and friends of Rwanda from around Europe and beyond..
The event attracted about 3000 Rwandans who had the opportunity to hear from and interact with President Paul Kagame and several other Rwandan government officials.
Children who constitute a Belgium-based Rwandan cultural troupe, Itetero, perform at the Rwanda Day. They also sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the hours-long ceremony.
Itetero children’s cultural troupe impressed at the event, underlining the commitment of Rwandans in the Diaspora to uphold and pass on to the next generations the country’s rich culture.
A Cameroonian medical specialist who lives in Belgium poses a question to President Kagame during the event. The President invited him to help transfer medical skills to Rwanda, to which he agreed.
