The seventh edition of the annual local music competition, Primus Guma-Guma Super Star otherwise known as PGGSS continued over the weekend, with the ten contestants staging concerts across the country, this time Ngoma district the destination.

The 10, Queen Cha, Active, Mico The Best, Christopher Muneza, Oda Paccy, Bull Dogg, Davis D, Danny Nanone, Social Mulla, and Dream Boyz staged a live show in the Eastern Province district, bringing excitement to the usually calm town of Ngoma.

As early at 9am, hundreds of people were already streaming into the district stadium waiting for their favorite musicians. It was clear that Ngoma people were eager and prepared to support the local musicians.

As it has been for the last two concerts, the event was hosted by emcees Buryohe and Kate Gustave, with opening performances of Sebeya Band, a rising contemporary and traditional band comprised of former students of Nyundo School of Art and Music.

The pioneers of the music school were given the deal by Bralirwa and East African Promoters (EAP) to back up PGGSS 7 contestants after their graduation earlier this year.

The opening performance by Sebeya Band set the mood for revelers, and shortly the trio of Active took to the stage performing Active Love and Slow Down which they invited their dance group to help them on stage. The boys as usual exhibited electric dance moves.

Queen Cha, one of the only two female contestants in the competition was given the floor to perform next.

Clad in red chic jumpsuit, sun glasses and black high-heels, the buxom singer was ushered on stage by a raucous reception before she was joined by her dancers to deliver a spectacular performance.

She performed Icyaha Ndacyemera and Feel Alone before departing the stage for rapper Oda Paccy.

Paccy’s performance was characterised mainly by dance and it was obvious from the crowd that people were excited by her hip-hop songs including Ese Nzapfa and Rendezvous which are pretty popular with the masses.

After Paccy’s performance, Mico The Best took to the stage performing his popular songs Kure and Indahiro. His Rumba-like music got the revelers on their feet.

After his performance, the Super Level based artiste took time off to request the residents of Ngoma to vote for him as part of supporting the Afrobeat music.

Danny Nanone, appearing in the contest for the third time graced the stage proving that hip-hop music is still a force to reckon with. The rapper performed Njye Ndarapa and Ikirori, proving that this time round he wants to the win the coveted prize of Rwf24 million.

Dream Boys as usual made a fashion statement, appearing on stage dressed in police-like fatigues, flocked by their dancers in yellow outfits.

The duo which performed some of their songs like Uzamubwire is in the competition for the sixth time, but it looks like they haven’t convinced the music lovers that they deserve to win.

Bull Dogg was the next on stage after Dream Boys and he was hugely welcomed in Ngoma. The self-proclaimed king of hip-hop in Rwanda appealed to the people of Ngoma to support hip hop. He performed Impfubyi and Nk’umusaza.

Davis D, one of the rising stars on the Rwandan music scene and the youngest singer in the contest was the next on stage on stage.

Though he was not very popular with the crowd, the Irekure singer accompanied by Snipers Dance Crew managed to impress many.

It was then time for RnB singer Christopher to spice up the evening’s performances with an ecstatic appearance.

The mood changed and people went wild when he was invited as the second last singer on stage to perform Agatima and Uwo munsi.

One wouldn’t be wrong to say that he was arguably the best performer of the evening, going by the energetic performance he delivered and the involvement of the crowd.

RnB and Afrobeat singer Social Mula closed the highly attended show with a firm performance of his songs Amahitamo and Abanyakigali. Appearing the competition for the first time, the Kundunduro singer didn’t disappoint and people sung along with him.

His performance was excellent and his songs seemed familiar with the most people who had turned up.

Next week, the contestants will head to Rubavu district where they will have the last roadshow, before coming to Kigali where the grand finale will take place on June 24.
