NORTHERN PROVINCE
The Musanze district council approved the district’s mini budget for the first six months of the next fiscal year 2009, during its three-day retreat at Kabusunzu-Kigali last week.
The Rwf2, 857,183,217budget was unanimously passed by all the councillors; details of the budgetary allocation were not readily available.
The next budget for the rest of the year will be passed mid next year in line with the East African Community (EAC) fiscal year.
At the retreat, however, the councillors also resolved to fully participate in implementing district performance contracts and other developmental initiatives set by the executive.
The retreat dwelt on Rwanda’s integration into EAC, how to implement poverty eradication programmes (EDPRS), and how to foster unity and reconciliation.
It was resolved that the district workers will be evaluated basing on their performance- by considering the amount of production from every department.
Other resolutions adopted include facilitating cell and sector leaders to go for study tours to different areas to gain knowledge on land consolidation.
Cyuve Sector was cited as one of the areas where the leaders would visit because land consolidation has succeeded there.
It was observed that there is need for more education about EDPRS among both authorities and residents in order to speed up its implementation.
Giving Ruhengeri town facelift, according to a new town plan yet to be designed, was also one of the resolutions adopted.
