Over 80 golfers from Rwanda and the region are expected to participate in this year’s third edition of Madaraka Day golf tournament that will take place on Saturday at Kigali Golf Club course in Nyarutarama.
The annual event is organised by Kenyan golfers living and working in Rwanda to commemorate the day Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963, which falls on June 1.
According to the Kigali Golf Club vice-captain John Thairu, the tournament is expected to attract between 80-100 golfers from regional countries. The first edition was held in 2015.
The golfers will compete in three categories; men, ladies and seniors. The mode of play will be stroke play. The men will also be played in three different categories namely; handicap 0-9, 10-18 and 19-28.
"Everything is in place for the smooth running of the event and we expect Kenya’s Ambassador to Rwanda, John Mwengemi, to grace the event and,” said Thairu.
