Rwanda national football team (Amavubi) will play against their Morocco counterparts on Friday and Sunday in this year’s second edition of the Genocide Memorial tournament.

The Morocco’s 32-man delegation comprising 23 players and nine members of technical staff arrived in Kigali on Tuesday night aboard Turkish Airways.

The tournament is held in commemoration of football players, fans, administrators as well as other Rwandans, who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

In the inaugural edition held in 2015, four nations including hosts Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan and Tanzania, played against each other in a round-robin format.

Amavubi will use the two games as part of their preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Central Africa Republic, which is scheduled for June 11 in Bangue.

FERWAFA had sent out invitations to several countries namely; Guinea Conakry, Equatorial Guinea, Togo, Congo Brazzaville, Libya, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Gabon, Liberia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria, but only one has honoured the invite.
