RE: "The agony of children born of rape in the Genocide” (The New Times, May 29). Even more incredible, the Fund for support to Genocide Survivors (FARG ) has apparently decided that such children are undeserving of the support the Fund was specifically established to provide – I don’t know on what basis!

Government needs to step in and ensure that those who have inflicted such criminal discrimination and additional victimisation against both mother and her child, born from circumstances of unimaginable suffering, obviously based on the contemptible view that such children should be shunned, are no longer in a position to continue to arbitrarily abuse the power entrusted to them to decide which survivors’ children of the Genocide against the Tutsi deserve help from public resources which they only hold in trust and who among such survivors, their children or the surviving children of victims should be shut out of such support.

The behaviour of those FARG officials involved in this – and no doubt – thousands of similar cases is just beyond the pale.

They should be removed from positions in which they are able to continue such arbitrary abuse of power in the dispensation of public resources.
