RE: "MPs reach out to secondary schools to preach against genocide ideology” (The New Times, May 15).

It is important to reach out to and educate the youth on the fight against genocide ideology. I hope some of our youths are not stubborn as to turn a deaf ear.

One thing I am sure about, many of them are willing to shun and vigorously fight the ideology but then you find in some cases parents intoxicating them, feeding them on distorted segments of our history.

We need to tell our youth the right history of the Genocide against the Tutsi so that they can defy whoever tells them a distorted history.

AGPF-Rwanda’s outreach programme is a great move. It will help the youth understand the government’s stand against genocide ideology.

But this effort should not be left to the legislators under AGPF-Rwanda only; other senior government officials should also carry out regular outreach programmes to sensitise the youth to join in the fight against genocide ideology.

There is need for inclusive fight to eradicate this vice and, together, we can eradicate it.
