The embassy of the United States of America in Rwanda has promised a stronger partnership with the Rwandan Muslim Community, especially in the sector of education.

During a recent visit by the two parties to ESIM School, a Muslim-affiliated school in Gatsibo District, Eastern Province, Ambassador Erica Barks-Ruggles said they were happy the school had developed tremendously. The school was built in partnership between the Rwanda Muslims Community (RMC) and US Embassy in Kigali.

"I’m pleased that they have been able to build several blocks and there are plans to expand library and computer labs. This shows that the Muslim community in Rwanda and the Ministry of Education have a good impression on the future of Rwanda and we’re very proud to be partners in this,” said she said.

The envoy also promised to support some students with scholarships.

The Mufti, Sheikh Salim Hitimana, said they started the school in partnership with the US Embassy in 2003 as a way of contributing to the development of the education sector.

"We’re aware that there’s still need for more structures and we’re working on that with our partners because both of us have the will to develop this school,” said Hitimana.
