ON A HIGH: Casa Mbungo has created some steel in his team this season.

Weekend results

APR         0-1   Police
Atraco     4-0   AS Kigali
Kiyovu     0-1   Electrogaz
Marines   0-2   Rayon

The champions, Atraco Fc leapfrogged rivals APR at the top of the national football league with a 4-0 win over AS Kigali as the military side were shocked 1-0 by Police on Sunday.

League top scorer, Jean Lomami notched a brace to take his tally for the season to nine goals in seven matches, having missed one through suspension.

Ismail Habumuremyi and Joseph Kabagambe added the other two to help Sam Timbe’s side reclaim top spot, three days after losing it to APR in midweek.

After overcoming the champions 3-1 last Wednesday, many expected APR to easily beat Police on Sunday to extend their lead at the top but that wasn’t to be as the record nine-time champions were handed their first loss of the season.

Leandre Sekamana stunned his former employers with a neat first half strike which gave his team their third win of the season and into the top four on 13 points, three behind third placed Rayon Sports and five adrift of Atraco.

APR remain second on 17 points. The pin-sized midfielder dribbled past Ismail Nshutinamagara and Elias Ntaganda in the APR defence to loop past custodian Jean Claude Ndoli. At Umuganda stadium, Northern Province, Marines to lost 2-0 to visiting Rayon Sports.

Joseph Kaniki and Bonaventure Hategikimana scored for the blues, who remain the only unbeaten side so far this season with four win and four draws.

Meanwhile, Kiyovu’s woes continued and relegation looking more of a possibility than a worry succumbed after going down 1-0 to Electrogaz for their fifth defeat of the season.

Ahmed Ruziga netted the winning goal for Abdul Mbarushimana’s side that remain ninth despite the win. The loss means that Kiyovu have managed only a return of three points out of the possible 24 after eight matches.

Amagaju defeated La Jeunesse, another relegation candidate 2-1 in Nyamagabe. La Jeunesse remain bottom with two points.

The league resumes on Wednesday with a full fixture schedule but the peak of the day will certainly be the one that pits Rayon Sport against Atraco at Mironko stadium while APR squares up against struggling Kiyovu in Gitarama.
