National football league side Bugesera FC thrashed second division outfit AS Muhanga 4-0 on Tuesday at Nyamata ground to book a place in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Peace Cup.
The Eastern Province-based side came into the round of 16, second needing to overturn a 0-1 deficit from the first leg played in Muhanga last week, and they went on won 4-0 courtesy of Shaban Bigirimana and Bertrand Iradukunda, who netted a brace each.
The big victory for coach Gilbert Yaoundé Kanyankole side, saw them qualify with a 4-1 aggregate win and set a two-legged last eight tie against eight-time champions, APR FC.
In other quarter-final ties, reigning champions Rayon Sports will take on 2015 winners, Police FC, AS Kigali; winners of this competition in 2013 will face Amagaju FC, while Espoir FC will be up against Marines FC.
The quarter-finals will be played in June and eventual winners will play in semi-finals, also set for the same month to determine the finalists, who will face-off in the grand finale on July 4, at Amahoro National Stadium.
The winner of the Peace Cup Competition will represent Rwanda at next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
