Women V-ball team set to play at African Championships

Rwanda women national volleyball team will compete at the upcoming Africa Nations Championships, which will be held on August 4-16 in Cameroon, the local volleyball governing body, FRVB, has confirmed.

According to the FRVB vice president Julius Kagarama Kansiime, the team will hold a special training camp starting in mid-June. Rwanda has failed to participate in the annual tournament for the last six years.

"We need to prepare a strong team for the competition, I believe we have players, who can make the country proud,” Kansiime said.

Last year, the U23 team finished in fourth place at the U23 Africa Nations Championships held in Kenya, Nairobi.

Two years ago, Kenya claimed their ninth African title after beating North African giants Algeria 3-0 in the final to add to the success of 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2013.

Players that could be lined up for preparations include; Claudine Musanabageni (APR), Angelique Uwibambe (APR), Delphine Uwicyeza (APR), Lea Uwimbabazi (GS Indangaburezi), Ernestine Akimanizanye (RRA), Efrance Niyomukesha (RRA) and Seraphine Mukantambara (RRA).

Others are; Hope Musaniwabo (ST Alloys), Benita Mukandayisenga (St Alloys), Marie Grace Niyigena (RRA), Yvette igihozo Cyuzuzo (APR), Brigitte Mutakwampuhwe (APR), Charlotte Nzayisenga (RRA), Denise Mutatsimpundu (APR), Beatriace Uwimana (RRA), Beatrice Uwamahoro (RRA) among others.
